Tomorrow
Do you remember when?
The words ring in my head. I sing them in my sleep. I see them while I program. I hum them while I drive. I taste them in the center of every Cheerio. The words stick like the sap on the pine tree in the back of Jeff’s yard.
I live for tomorrow yet all of the words and images I remember look back on the past. Ironic. I’m happy with today. The future holds promise of change. Yesterday is such an unhappy song. It’s remembrance of all of my failures, regrets, and lost promises.
Why do I only remember the past? Why can’t I remember tomorrow, or my next true love?
Today, I think I’ll remember tomorrow.
