Text, text

It’s all text… Driven by a lot of recent designs that are completely textual, I’ve designed this site to entirely use text. No images. None. The comment space is a little larger too, which should make things interesting. I’m not sure I’ll keep it so big. Perhaps I’ll start hiding comments on the main page or I’ll start sending out some cookies to hide old comments and only display new ones. Regardless, I’ll take all feedback to heart, so speak up!

  • I like the new design. It is hip. The base font is modern and easy to read and I suspect that it might be Arial. One suggestion would be to add a bit of color. When you look at the blog under Sun-Solaris/Mozilla the large text in the top banner looks a little chunky almost as if font smoothing hasn’t occurred but this could just be the browser. The timestamp for each blog entry could be a little larger as 8 pt makes it a little hard to read. There could be a litle gap between the vertical line and the word Archives. The way you present the comment numbers is great.

    hooah!

  • Chris, the base font should only be Arial if you don’t have ‘Gill Sans’, ‘Lucida Grande’, or Geneva. That said, I sure hope you’re not viewing it in Arial because I really didn’t mean for people to see it that way. With the super-cleartype font smoothing windows xp and beyond has, the site looks good but where it really shines is on a mac. Nothing can beat how nice the font smoothing is on these things. That was something I had to weigh, and I’m still considering the possibility of using images or some niifty flash rendering to make things look even nicer in windows.

  • When I look at the web site using XP-IE the fonts are smooth, clean and look great. You have really great design feature on the website. I occasionally use the Sun for some internet stuff so I was able to contrast how the blog looks under different browsers & platforms.

  • A bit off topic, but curious how much snow fell in Baltimore.
