Annapolis Rocks is a crag about an hours drive from both Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. It’s located northwest of Baltimore, a little past Frederick, in Myersville, MD. Dave found some information about this crag a couple months ago and we decided to take a trip up there to climb. It was mighty cold but also incredibly cool, considering it is the tallest rock structure I have yet to climb outside of a gym (65ft). I’ve been there twice and I’ve really enjoyed each time, especially because there’s a nice hour long hike to get to the crag which pumps you up to begin with, and then camping nearby which I hope to try sometime once the weather gets slightly warmer.
One recent thing I’ve enjoyed doing is splicing together panorama photos using some programs on my mac. While I was there in November I took some pictures to create a panorama but forgot about them until today. The image below is taken from the top of the rocks looking out at what I think is Myersville, MD and the surrounding area. Click it for a high quality version.

Looks like a cool place to climb and explore. What was the climb rated at? I think you mentioned somewhere that it had three overhangs.
There are a ton of climbs over there. I’d say 50+ routes. One particular one I did there had 3 overhangs and it was a 5.9 I believe. Things always seem harder when you’re outside. I’m not sure why.
In some cases you are operating in unfamiliar territory and envrionment. Actual rocks are more abrasive then the forms that you get in the rock gym. There is always the weather and the dynamic conditions. There is a bit more uncontrolled risk. The rock faces stare down at you & chuckle until you show them whose master for a while. Infinite number of approaches some more challenging than others.
FYI … that isn’t Myersville in your photo. Myersville is east of South Mountain. The rocks face west. The lake in your photo is Greenbrier State Park.
