Odd ways to wake up

Of all the odd ways to wake up, one of the strangest happened to me this morning: I woke up to the sound of Emily whining, lying with her feet on the bed and body down on the floor, and Cleopatra, her cat, hacking up/throwing up a hairball. Just as I jumped up and turned on the lamp, and before I quite figured out what was going on, Cleo threw up in Emily’s hand, ran off and began to puke on a comforter lying on the floor. So I did what any sane person would do at 6am. I dove off the bed, did a belly flop onto the floor and picked the cat up just as she was hurling and threw her about four feet across the room onto the wood floor.

Fractured foot

I found out on the 20th of November I fractured a sesamoid bone in my foot just behind my big toe. So, I’ve been on crutches since then and will be until January 1st. What a bummer. A lot of activities will be impacted including work, climbing, dancing, and even holiday travel plans.

On the bright side, I’ve had some major problems with that big toe joint, perhaps what is called sesamoiditis. At least I’ll be giving that some time to rest and heal. I hope in the new year I can cure some more of these aches and pains I’ve been having. Being off my foot for six weeks is a good start.

Engaged

If you haven’t heard, Emily and I got engaged on November 7th while on vacation at Herrington Manor.

Our weekend was amazing; relaxing in an old log cabin with a wood burning stove, hiking in the autumn leaves, and walking through the mud of a drained lake. Herrington Manor and Swallow Falls have always had a special place in my heart but even more so now.

I’m super excited to begin planning a life with her. Though, I didn’t expect to be planning the wedding so quickly! After searching about 20 venues and realizing no one had any openings for next fall we realized the importance of making plans and setting a date now. No luck finding anything yet. But I have hopes we’ll find something soon.
