I think you'd have to be drunk to want to sleep outside all weekend in the freezing rain and snow! (Disclaimer: This comment is coming from a born and raised Floridian whose singular camping experience involved a Thunderstorm and many, many caterpillars....)

We started drinking around 6, so I bet we had a good solid 6 or 7 hours of drinking. WAY more than half a dozen shots! I almost puked in the morning... I'd say I was within a hair of doing so. Once I got that fine meal in my stomach, I felt great.

I have the same problem with mixing beer and bourbon in any significant quantities. Couple of beers, half a dozen shots, no problem, but more than that and I'm guaranteed a hangover. Lucky you didn't puke up that fine breakfast!

I'd have gone with you and the dog on the hike -- we've got gun ranges right here in town. Sounds like a nice park to camp and hike!

Glad that you had a good time despite the challenging weather. When I have camped in similar conditions I usually take down a couple of dead standing trees and dress then before burning them (usually conifers). A standing dead tree is usually dryer and burns more easily than one that has been lying on the ground. I’ve had similar experience trying to burn punky (semi-rotted) trees and usually give up.

Curious to read about how your gear held up in a future blog…
